What are Biological Pesticides?
Biological Pesticides or Biopesticides are certain types of pesticides derived from such natural materials as animals, plants, bacteria, and certain minerals.
Biopesticides are meant to decrease the use of conventional pesticides and thus save the crops from contamination.
The use of Biopesticides must be done with clear strategy/approach; as such pesticides are generally target specific.
What are the advantages of using Biopesticides?
– Biopesticides are inherently less toxic than conventional pesticides because they are sourced naturally and are mostly free of harmful chemicals.
– As mentioned before, Biopesticides are target specific. Thus, such pesticides only affect the “target pest” and closely related organisms. On the other hand, the conventional pesticides affect all other organisms like birds, insects, and other animals.
– You do need huge quantities of Biopesticides for it to be effective. Additionally, such pesticides also decompose quickly. This means – less costing and less pollution. It’s a win-win.
– Most of the Biopesticides are effective and there has been no evidence of resistance.
– The Conventional technique or methods of applications is used which makes it easy for farmers.
But this is NOT everything you need to know about Biological pesticides. To use Biopesticides effectively (and safely), farmers must have knowledge of these 4 things – which biopesticide to use, when to use, target insects, and target crops.
Let’s discuss about the range of Biopesticides that are based on different types of microorganisms especially fungus –
The Bio Clean Sweep Bioesticide by Utkarsh Agrochem is made from living organisms and fungi which causes a disease known as the “white muscadine” in insects.
When spores of Bio Clean Sweep fungus come in contact with susceptible insects, they germinate and grow directly through the cuticle to the inner body.
Here the fungus proliferates throughout the insect’s body, producing toxins and draining the insect of nutrients, eventually killing it.
When to use it?
– The Bio Clean Sweep is used when insects start attacking and are visible with naked eyes.
Target Insects
– Sucking Pest like Aphids, Jassids, Thrips, Mealy Bug, Brown Plant Hoppers, Scale Insects, White flies, Mites, Leaf miner, etc.
– Larvae and Caterpillars like Helicoverpa, Spodoptera, Plutella, Borers, Hairy Caterpillars, Cut Worms, Army Worms, Leaf Roller, etc.
Target Crops
– It can be used on all types of fruits, vegetables, grains, flowers, and ornamental plants that are damaged by insects.
Now this is everything you need to know about Biological pesticides – Bio Clean Sweep.
The NematoNIL Biopesticide by Utkarsh Agrochem is made from various fungal strains to control the nematodes.
When to use?
– The NematoNIL is used when the roots are infected with insects.
Target Insects
– NematoNIL has the ability to colonize the eggs of wide range of phytopathogenic nematodes and sometimes it even colonizes the female Nematode.
– It is also effective over larvae of many Nematodes while remaining harmless to other beneficial insects and micro-flora.
Target Crops
– It can be used on Banana, Papaya, and all citrus trees like Lemon, Pomegranate, Guava, Wheat, Strawberry, Tomato, Eggplant, Tobacco, etc.

The NemoFunGo Biopesticide by Utkarsh Agrochem is made from various effective fungi that are effective in controlling different types of soil borne Nematodes and Fungi.
When to use?
– The NemoFunGo is used when fungus is seen in the soil and around the roots.
Target Insects
– Various Soil borne fungus like Root Rot, Stem Rot, Wilting, Damping off, etc.
– All types of nematodes like Root Knot Nematodes, Cyst Nematodes, Reniform Nematodes, Stunt Nematode, Black lesion Nematodes etc.
Target Crops
– It can be used on Sugarcane, Banana, Tobacco, Papaya, Chilly, Tomato, Groundnut, Vegetables, Orchards, and other crops damaged by Nematodes and Fungus.

The FungFree Biopesticide by Utkarsh Agrochem is made from different fungi like Trichoderma Viride, Trichoderma Harzianum, Ampelomyces Quisqualis and many more species.
When to use?
– The FungFree can be used as a protection for the crops against the air borne and soil borne diseases.
Target Insects
– Root Rot, Stem Rot, Wilt Disease, Damping off, Blight, Leaf spot, Downy Mildew, Powdery Mildew, Black Scurf

The GrubNIL Biopesticide by Utkarsh is made from fungus which causes a disease known as the White Muscadine in insects.
When spores of GrubNIL fungus come in contact with susceptible insects, they germinate and grow directly through the cuticle to the inner body.
Here, the fungus proliferates throughout the insect’s body, producing toxins and draining the insect of nutrients, eventually killing it.
When to use?
– The GrubNIL is used as a precaution, before the virus affect the useful bacteria/insects to drain them of nutrients and kill them.
Target Insects
– White Grubs, Beetle Grubs, Termites and other soil borne harmful insects, etc.
Target Crops
– It can be used on peanut, turmeric, beans, black and green gram, ginger, citrus plants, wheat, apple, potato, sugarcane, corn, soybean, and paddy.
Now this is everything you need to know about Biological pesticides – GrubNIL.
The TermiNIL Biopesticide by Utkarsh Agrochem is made from the Metarhizium Anisopliae, Paecilomyces Lilacinus, Beauveria bassiana, and many other funguses which cause a disease known as the white muscadine in insects.
When spores of TermiNIL fungus come in contact with susceptible insects, they germinate and grow directly through the cuticle to the inner body.
Here the fungus proliferates throughout the insect’s body, producing toxins and draining the insect of nutrients, eventually killing it.
When to use?
– The TermiNIL is used when Termites and other insects are visible, they come in contact with insects to drain them of nutrients and kill them.
Target Insects
– Termites, White Grubs, Beetle Grubs and other soil borne harmful insects, etc.
Target Crops
– It can be used on Wheat, barley, sorghum, cotton, sugarcane, groundnut, coconut, sun hemp, chilies, mango, citrus, grapevine, peach, maize, finger millet, red gram, sugarcane, groundnut, Niger, castor, coconut, jackfruit, and cashew.
