Targeted Action:
Utkarsh Red Palm Weevil is intended for use as an attractant of Red Palm Weevil (Rhynchophorus ferrugineous) pest orchards of Coconut, Arecanut, Date palm & Oil palm in order to trap them for monitoring and mass trapping. This is found to reduce the intensity of pest incidence, leading to a reduction in crop damage thereby improving the yields / output quality.

Product Description:
The Active Ingredient blend of 4 Methyl 5 Nonanol – 90 % & 4 Methyl 5 Nonanone – 10 % is a potent aggregation attractant for males and females of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus. This liquid formulation @ 700 mg is loaded in a wood block, which is kept in a sealed polyethylene pouch, which is placed in traps in the field. It is used in combination with a Magnet and feed attractant to maximize catch rates of the pest.

Application Protocol:

  • The trap is to be positioned in such a way that it is half buried in the ground to the level of the side entrances OR hung on tree stems at a height of 1-1.5 m.
  • Traps should ideally be placed in shaded areas. Recommended to use one Utkarsh Red Palm Weevil lure per trap. One Utkarsh Red Palm Weevil lure would last upto 3 months depending upon climatic conditions.
  • The trapping density should be adequate to manage pest infestation. The recommended trap density is 5-10 traps per hectare for mass trapping and 1-2 traps for monitoring.
