6 Most important stages of Turmeric cultivation
Turmeric is the dried rhizome of the herbaceous plant Curcuma longa. Curcumin, a pigment, is found in 1.8-5.4 per cent of the rhizome, as well as 2.5-7.2 per cent of essential oil. It’s a popular condiment as well as a color with a variety of uses in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. Andhra Pradesh is India’s most populous state, ahead of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Orissa, Kerala, and Bihar.
Best Climate for Turmeric
Turmeric may be grown everywhere from sea level to 1500 metres in the highlands, at temperatures ranging from 20 to 300 degrees Celsius and rainfall ranging from 1500 to 2250 millimetres per year. It’s also cultivated as an irrigation crop.
Soil for Turmeric
Turmeric may be grown everywhere from sea level to 1500 metres in the highlands, at temperatures ranging from 20 to 300 degrees Celsius and rainfall ranging from 1500 to 2250 millimetres per year. It’s also cultivated as an irrigation crop.
How to do Turmeric Irrigation
Irrigated crops require 15-20 irrigations in heavy soils and 35-40 irrigations in light soils, depending on soil types. Moisture stress has an impact on the plant’s growth and development, particularly during the rhizome bulking stage.
Stages in Turmeric farming
- 1) Before plantation: at the time of seed treatment, Utkarsh Microbes 5 gm/ litre and Utkarsh Vamoz- L 2ml/ litre should be applied. The basal dose has to be given on the sowing day and that includes Utkarsh Combi soil 10kg/ acre, Compost 10 tons/ acre, DAP/ SSP 50kg/ 150kg, Mulching material 2-3 tons and MOP 25 kg. 30 days after sowing, Utkarsh PrimeAll 3 kg, Utkarsh Stress Free 0.25 litre, and Utkarsh Fungfree 0.3 litre should be applied by the method of spraying.

3) Rhizome initiation stage: 80 days after plantation, Urea 30 kg, MOP 50 kg, and Mulching material 2-3 MT should be given by the method of soil application. 90 days after plantation, Utkarsh Microbes 2 kg, FungFree 1 litre, and Vamoz- L 1 litre should be given by the method of drenching or drip application. 100 days from the plantation, Combi-2 2 gm/ litre and Stress free 2ml/ litre should be applied by the method of spraying.
4) Rhizome maturity stage: 140 days from sowing, through the method of soil application, Urea 30 kg and MOP 50 kg should be given to the plant. Through the method of drenching or drip irrigation, 150 days after sowing, Microbes 2 kg, Fungfree 1 litre, and Vamoz- L 1 litre should be given.
5) Insects observed: if Rhizome scale, Thrips, Lacewing bug, Bihari hairy caterpillar, Rhizome fly are observed on the plant, Utkarsh Bio Clean Sweep 2ml/ litre should be applied by the method of spraying. If Leaf Spot/Anthracnose/ Leaf Blight/Leaf Blotch is noticed on the plant, Utkarsh Fungfree 2ml/ litre should be applied by the method of spraying. Harvesting of Turmeric
The crop can be harvested in seven to nine months, depending on the type. The area is ploughed, and the rhizomes are collected by hand plucking or carefully lifting the clumps with a spade. Mud and other foreign debris adhered to harvested rhizomes are removed. Green turmeric yields 20-25 tonnes per hectare on average.
