Key Features:
- Packet contains: Utkarsh 562 Variety Watermelon 1-Pack Seeds (2gm). (Raw, Traditional Seeds, Non-Hybrid, 100% Pure & Desi Strain, Locally Adapted, and GMO-Free)
- Season of sowing: January–April and June–July, depending on the local climate. Warm temperatures are ideal for healthy vine growth and fruit development.
- Mode of sowing: Direct sowing. Sow seeds about 2–3 cm deep directly in well-prepared soil, raised beds or large grow bags. Avoid transplanting where possible.
- Germination time: Approximately 4–8 days under suitable warmth and moisture.
- Sunlight: 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily.
- Soil Type: Fertile, loose and well-drained sandy-loam or loamy soil with good organic matter. Avoid heavy, compact or waterlogged soil.
- Watering: Water regularly and moderately during germination and early growth. Maintain consistent moisture during flowering and fruit development without causing waterlogging.
- Harvesting: Approximately 70–90 days after sowing, depending on growing conditions. Harvest when the fruit reaches its mature size, develops a suitable colour and the underside begins to change colour. The tendril near the fruit may also dry as maturity approaches.
- Blooming Period: Generally begins around 4–6 weeks after sowing, followed by repeated flowering and fruit formation.
- Planting Period: January–April and June–July, depending on temperature and local growing conditions.
- Expected Plant Height: Approximately 30–60 cm in height, with long spreading vines that can extend 2–4 m or more.
- Growing Location: Outdoor kitchen gardens, home gardens, open garden spaces, raised beds, terraces and large grow bags with sufficient space for vines.
- Suitable For: Home gardeners, kitchen gardens, terrace gardens, container gardening and growers with adequate space for spreading vines.
- Watering: Maintain even soil moisture, especially during flowering and fruit development. Water at the base of the plant and avoid excessive irrigation as the fruits approach maturity.
- Care Instructions: Provide 6–8 hours of sunlight, use fertile well-drained soil, and add compost or well-decomposed organic manure. Give the vines sufficient space to spread, remove weeds regularly, and avoid waterlogging. Keep developing fruits off continuously wet soil where possible. Monitor fruit development and harvest at the appropriate maturity stage.
