- Season of sowing: September to January; best suited to cool and mild weather conditions.
- Mode of sowing: Start seeds in a nursery tray or seedbed. Transplant healthy seedlings when they are approximately 4–5 weeks old. Cabbage can also be grown in large pots or grow bags.
- Germination time: 5–10 days.
- Sunlight: 5–7 hours of sunlight per day.
- Soil Type: Fertile, well-drained loamy soil rich in organic matter, with good moisture-retention capacity. Avoid waterlogged soil.
- Watering: Water regularly and moderately to keep the soil evenly moist, particularly during head formation. Avoid both excessive dryness and waterlogging.
- Harvesting: Approximately 60–90 days after transplanting, depending on growing conditions and variety. Harvest when the cabbage heads are firm, compact and have reached the desired size.
- Blooming Period: Cabbage is normally harvested before flowering. If left in the field beyond maturity, flowering may occur during the following warmer period, generally around February to April.
- Planting Period: September to January.
- Expected Plant Height: Approximately 30–60 cm, depending on growing conditions and variety.
- Growing Location: Outdoor kitchen gardens, home gardens, raised beds, balconies, terraces, pots and grow bags.
- Suitable For: Home gardening, kitchen gardens, terrace gardening, container gardening and beginner gardeners.
- Watering: Maintain consistent soil moisture throughout the growing period, especially during head formation. Water at the base of the plant and avoid prolonged wetness around the roots.
- Care Instructions: Use fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or well-decomposed organic manure. Transplant healthy seedlings with adequate spacing to allow proper head development. Provide 5–7 hours of sunlight, remove weeds regularly and maintain even soil moisture. Monitor the plants during head formation and harvest when the heads become firm and compact.
