Key Features:
-
Packet contains: Utkarsh Baby Corn 1-Pack Seeds (5gm). (Raw, Traditional Seeds, Non-Hybrid, 100% Pure & Desi Strain, Locally Adapted, and GMO-Free).
- Season of sowing: January to April and June to September. In warmer parts of India, sowing can be adjusted according to local temperature and rainfall conditions.
- Mode of sowing: Direct sowing is recommended. Sow seeds about 2–3 cm deep directly in the soil, raised beds or large grow bags. Planting in blocks or rows helps with better pollination if some plants are allowed to mature.
- Germination time: 4–8 days.
- Sunlight: 6–8 hours of direct sunlight per day.
- Soil Type: Fertile, well-drained loamy soil enriched with organic matter. Sandy-loam soil with good drainage can also be suitable.
- Watering: Water regularly and moderately to maintain consistent soil moisture. Avoid prolonged waterlogging.
- Harvesting: Baby corn can generally be harvested approximately 45–60 days after sowing, depending on the variety and growing conditions. Harvest the young ears shortly after the silks appear, while the cobs are tender and before the kernels develop fully. Frequent harvesting encourages additional tender ears.
- Blooming Period: Approximately 45–60 days after sowing. For baby corn production, ears are harvested at the tender stage before normal grain development.
- Planting Period: January to April and June to September.
- Expected Plant Height: Approximately 1.2–2 metres, depending on variety and growing conditions.
- Growing Location: Outdoor kitchen gardens, home gardens, raised beds, open gardens and large grow bags with adequate space.
- Suitable For: Home gardening, kitchen gardens, terrace gardening, grow-bag cultivation and gardeners interested in growing fresh baby corn.
- Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, particularly during active growth and ear formation. Water at the base of the plants and avoid excessive watering or stagnant water.
- Care Instructions: Provide 6–8 hours of sunlight and use fertile, well-drained soil enriched with compost or well-decomposed organic manure. Maintain adequate spacing between plants, remove weeds regularly and provide consistent moisture. Monitor the plants closely once the ears begin forming and harvest baby corn at the tender stage for the best texture and quality.
